Ahane GAA : Weekly Notes 17th July 2017

Senior Hurling : The Senior hurlers continued training and also had a very useful run out against Mungret on Sunday morning.  It has now been confirmed that Ahane's SHC Round 4 match v Kilmallock is to be held at the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday 30th July with a throw in time of 7.30pm as part of a double header with Patrickswell and Monaleen with a throw in time of 5.15pm. All support for our Senior hurlers and our Sponsor "Munster Tree Surgeons" is very much appreciated.

Minor Hurling : The Minor Hurlers were back training on Thursday and Sunday this past week as they get ready for the visit of Doon next Friday 21st in the Premier Minor Championship which is fixed for a throw in time of 7.30pm in Mackey Park- as ever all support on the evening will be very much appreciated.

As Gaeilge : Déardaoin 13ú, d’imir peileadóirí sóisireacha Atháin sa Chraobh Luimnigh Thoir. Cill Tíle/Drom Caoin a tháinig go Páirc Mhic Aodha agus iad réidh don coimhlint. Bhuaigh Cill Tíle ar Atháin 2-14 in aghaidh 3-3. Sa chéad leath, thosaigh na cuairteoirí ar luas lasrach agus cé gur tháinig Atháin ar ais le cúl ó Stephen Ryan agus ceann eile ó Tristan O’Sullivan bhí Cill Tíle sé chúilín chun tosaigh ag leath ama. Rinne Atháin tosach maith sa dara leath agus fuair Evan O’Neil cúl deas agus ní raibh ach dhá chúilín idir na foirne ansin. Ach, chríochnaigh Cill Tíle I bhfad níos láidre agus bhí bua compordach acu sa deireadh.  Caithfidh Atháin an lámh in uachtar a fháil ar Phalás na Gréine sa chéad cluiche eile chun dul ar aghaidh sa chraobh.

U12 :  the U12 Footballers travelled to Ballybrown on Thursday evening last for the first game of Phase Two of the U12 Football 13-a-side League.  The players put in a very solid performance on the night and there was nothing between the two teams over the course of the match.  The 15 Ahane players played a very controlled and flowing brand of football and came away with a two point win on a scoreline of Ballybrown 1-4 : Ahane 2-3 with the result going right down to the wire.  This was a fantastic team effort from each and every one of the players taking into account that many of the boys had been in Cul Camp in Ahane all week and 5 of the players had also played in an U14 Football league game on Tuesday evening.  Well done to Tony, Kyle, David, James R, Cathal, Ryan, Jack, Sean, Paddy, Will, James O'M, John, Adam, James D and Jamie.  The U12 hurlers have their first game in Phase 2 of the U12 Hurling league on Thursday evening.

U14 :  the U14 footballers had an away league game on Tuesday evening last to Belville Gaels. The team travelled to Feenagh with just 15 players including 6 of the U12 panel and put in a really strong effort against a bigger Belville outfit. Belville started strongly and were 4 points to no score up after 10 minutes. The Ahane players settled well thereafter and playing some flowing football and an increased team effort pulled themselves back into the game with the half-time score of 1-5 to 1-1 in favour of Belville Gaels. The players regrouped at half time and with the backs and midfield getting on top in the second half, the forwards continued to drive forward and took some nice scores - the team deservedly took the lead with a few minutes remaining. However the win was denied as Belville rallied and with every one of the Ahane players having given their all and no subs to call upon, Belville Gaels rallied and drew level with a few minutes remaining. The final score was 2-7 to 3-4. The team on the night was Cormac in goals, an U12 full back line of Kyle, Stephen and Sean, half backs of Jack, Evan and Colm, midfield of Shane and Liam, half forward line of Craig, Gavin and Tommy with a full forward line of Conor and 2 more of the U12's David and Will.

Limerick U21 Hurlers : Well done to Limerick U21 hurlers and to team captain Tom Morrissey in a great win over Clare in the Munster U21 Hurling Championship Semi Final in the Gaelic Grounds on Wednesday last 12th July.

Ahane GAA Cul Camp: A super week ended in Mackey Park on Friday with the arrival of special guest and Limerick Senior hurler and free scoring forward Shane Dowling. Shane had some special words for the boys and girls on the values of practice, enjoying training and listening to mentors. A big thank you to the efforts of everyone who supported the club and the Cul Camp and who ensured that the real stars had a great week - the boys and girls. Well done on turning out in record numbers and see you all in 2018.
