Our minor team welcomed Blackrock Effin to Mackey Park on Wednesday evening on a glorious evening for camogie. We got a good start with points coming from Niamh Brennan and Fiona Herbert before Tara Madigan made the most of a beautiful ball in from Molly to score Ahane’s first goal. Some more points from Niamh and Sarah Cosgrove saw Ahane go 1-04 to no score up. Blackrock Effin got their first point of the game in the 10th minute, but Ahane responded with their second goal which came off the stick of Sarah Cosgrove after some fantastic interlinking play between Fiona and Niamh. 1st half water break the scores stood as Ahane 2-05 Blackrock Effin 0-01. It was more of the same in the second quarter as Ciara Oliver got her name on the score sheet with another serous goal. Credit where credit is due, Blackrock Effin never gave up, and continued to put together some good passes and got a super score. Ciara Oliver added a point to her tally for the quarter and then Saoirse Casey got Ahane’s fourth goal, again a result of super team play outside the field between Ciara Keaveney and Niamh. Both teams are to be commended for their skill and work rate throughout especially in the warm conditions. Blackrock Effin got another good point before half time. Score Ahane 4-08 Blackrock Effin 0-04. The second half followed the same pattern and it saw Ahane get their fifth and final goal of the evening with Ciara Keaveney giving Niamh a great pass to which Niamh smashed the ball into the net. More unbelieve scores from all over the field from Niamh Brennan, Fiona Herbert and Sarah Cosgrove saw Ahane come away comprehensive winners. It was a fantastic display of camogie and a seriously good team performance from our girls.
